LIFE Svolta Blu: looking for companies to join the water credit market

As part of the LIFE Svolta Blu project, led by Viacqua, we are looking for agricultural and non-agricultural companies interested in taking part with projects aimed at protecting and saving water resources, to be included in an experimental water credit market.

LIFE Svolta Blu, funded by the European Union’s LIFE Programme, was created to address the water crisis, exacerbated by climate change and human pressure, through the development of an innovative “blue credit” market designed to reward those who reduce their water consumption or invest in solutions to protect water resources.

Companies can apply with projects launched after 1 October 2024 that fall within one of two areas: water reuse and conservation, resulting in reduced water withdrawals, or groundwater recharge and water generation for the benefit of the aquifer. The positive impact of the proposed measures must be demonstrable and measurable, while interventions must be traceable and remain in place for at least five years.

Selected companies will be able to generate water credits (1 credit = 100 m³ of water saved or generated), which can then be traded on the experimental local market at a value of €12.80 per credit. They will also have the opportunity to participate in a European LIFE project, gaining greater visibility and reputational benefits, while receiving free technical assistance and training on sustainable water resource management.

The model developed by the project partners aims to strengthen cooperation between businesses, public authorities and the agricultural sector, fostering a shared approach to ensuring the availability and quality of water resources for future generations.
